First Thursdays in Temple Bar

First Thursdays Dublin is a Temple Bar Cultural Trust initiative that brings together art galleries, cultural and creative spaces on the first Thursday of every month – by sharing the same late-night opening times!

First Thursdays Dublin (FTD) happens on the first Thursday of every month and opening hours are extended from 6- 8pm.  This offers you an extra chance to visit exhibitions, attend events and experience a bit of late-night culture!

We are actively inviting all galleries and creative spaces to get involved in First Thursdays Dublin.  So if you own, run or work in a gallery or creative space and would like more information on how to join us (at no cost) please get in touch before the first Thursday of next month!

First Thursdays Dublin Tour

Fancy a bit of company while you gallery hop across the city?  Hitting a different gallery hub every month, Pace Borza hosts the gallery tour and brings you to at least 3 galleries participating in FTD.  You are then met by the curator or artist in each gallery space, who will give you a little more background and context to the show being exhibited.  For more information on each month’s FTD Tour contact us on info@templebar.ie or 01 677 2255.

Dublin Culture Night App Officially Launched!

On September 4th 2012, Temple Bar Cultural Trust launched a new smart phone App for Dublin Culture Night in the Science Gallery, Dublin.

Hosted by social media expert Darragh Doyle, the 2012 Dublin Culture Night App was launched with the aim of making information on the diverse programme of events even more accessible to the public on Dublin Culture Night, September 21st.

The 2012 Dublin Culture Night App is available to download free of charge on Apple IOS devices from today and Android devices from Friday. The App is designed to ensure that members of the public have the full list of participating venues, locations and event listings for Dublin Culture Night 2012 available at their fingertips on September 21st. This year marks the seventh consecutive year of Culture Night and the development of the new App allows organisers Temple Bar Cultural Trust to bring their vision of an open, accessible and fun cultural experience to the public in an innovative and exciting way.

Dermot McLaughlin, Darragh Doyle, Shane McAallister & Cllr Kieran Binchy at the Dublin Culture Night Launch

Speaking at the launch of the Dublin Culture Night App, CEO of Temple Bar Cultural Trust Dermot McLaughlin said: “Culture Night is about giving the keys of the city to the public and bringing culture closer. It’s probably the biggest family-friendly night in Dublin and it gets better every year! This year we have developed an App that allows anyone who’s visiting Dublin to discover and experience the city’s marvellous cultural scene in a new way. You can plan and map your own Culture Night trail, you can snap pictures of highlights as you encounter them and share them live online, and stay connected to the Culture Night community! The App will enhance the visitor’s experience of Dublin on Culture Night. Just as importantly the App will let visitors make their own mark on the Culture Night experience. We hope that people will download the free App now and use it to plan a brilliant night out on the streets to explore the fantastic side of Dublin that throws its doors open late – and for free – on Culture Night.”

TBCT is delighted to announce that this year’s programme is the most expansive since the renowned late night of free cultural events was created in 2006.  People of all ages across the country are encouraged to take advantage of this national night of adventure and discovery. From live performances, workshops and gallery tours to talks, drama, dance and a whole range of other creative activities, Culture Night offers a platform that appeals to all ages and interests.  Last year more than 300,000 people engaged with Culture Night across the country and it is expected that even more will join in the cultural celebration this year.

The 2012 Dublin Culture Night App is available to download via iTunes http://bit.ly/Sg1lBG and will be available on all Android devices from Friday.

For more information on the participating institutions and programme of events for Culture Night 2012 go to www.culturenight.ie and join the conversation online at http://www.facebook.com/CultureNight and http://twitter.com/culturenight

Culture and the Economy – what does the future look like? 9 May

Wednesday 9th May, 2012 at 10am-12.30pm
Wood Quay Venue, Dublin 8

Where are the opportunities for culture and creative industries in a constantly changing economic environment?
We’ve invited three renowned economists David Throsby, John O’Hagan and George Lee to shed new light on this question and propose compelling alternatives…

David Throsby
David Throsby is professor of economics at Macquarrie University, Sydney, and is one of a rare breed – a leading expert in the field of cultural economics. He co-authored the 2010 Culture and Innovation Report for NESTA where he showed how cultural organisations can use new technologies and innovative business models to communicate with audiences on an entirely new level.

John O’Hagan
John O’Hagan is professor of economics at Trinity College, Dublin, and one of the leading specialists on the economics of the arts and culture. He is a committed advocate for the need to find new methods for measuring the value and contribution made by the arts outside the traditional impact study.

George Lee (Chair)
George Lee is a renowned broadcaster and economist, and former economics editor with RTE. Through his successful radio and television series, The Business, George is a champion for indigenous small businesses that embrace innovation, creativity and new ideas.

Mark Nagurski
Mark Nagurski is a Derry-based entrepreneur whose work with Digital Derry and iDDICTIVE focuses on promoting innovation and creative thinking in business. He is Digital Champion for the city of Derry, leading a collaborative cross-sectoral team focusing on supporting and promoting the development of the digital sector in Derry and the North-west.
