Launch of the new IDI training programme 30 May in the Malthouse Design Centre

IDI TRAINING PROGRAMME

The Institute of Designers in Ireland (IDI) is introducing a new series of training modules specifically for their interior design and architecture members but open to all designers.

The launch of the training programme will take place on the 30th May in the Malthouse Design Centre.

The first module will consist of a workshop on lighting. We welcome all designers who have an interest in lighting to attend.

Why lighting?

There is now increasing acceptance of the importance of good lighting design. However, how do we know how much light we need? What kind of lighting do we use? Where best to locate it? The aim of the training seminar is to teach the importance of a good lighting plan, provide a basic understanding of how to plan an effective lighting scheme by introducing the concept of layering with the ultimate aim of integrating the lighting within the architecture of the building.

13th Annual Institute of Designers in Ireland Awards

The IDI Awards are now open for entry. The closing date for entries is Friday 9 September. Entries can be made online via the IDI website, www.idi-design.ie/designawards. Rules and regulations applying to the awards are also available online. As in previous awards, all entries will be judged by an international jury

The IDI Design Awards 2011 will take place on Thursday 27 October. They are an occasion to celebrate the excellent standard of design achieved by designers on the island of Ireland for 2010/2011. It is also an opportunity for the IDI to promote this standard to a commercial audience.

Exceptional achievements are worth communicating, which is why all winning entries will be promoted to local, national and international press and trade publications and through our affiliations with international bodies, such as the International Federation of Interior Designers, the Bureau of European Design Associations, the International Council of Graphic Design Associations, the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design and the European Council of Interior Architects. All finalists will also be profiled in both the IDI members’ directory and the 2010/2011 IDI ‘Best of Irish Design’ book, to be made available to all members, the general public and commercial enterprise.

The presentation of outstanding design entries will be exhibited at the awards ceremony.

On behalf of the Institute of Designers in Ireland, we would like to wish all entrants the best of luck.
