www.templebar.ie

From July 15th – 24th, Temple Bar Cultural Trust is teaming up with more than 20 of its cultural neighbours, over 100 artists and performers and some of the most exciting creative companies in Ireland to celebrate 20 years of unique culture and regeneration in Dublin’s Cultural Quarter.

The Made in Temple Bar festival will feature over 70 events including premieres of site specific theatre, outdoor movies, specially commissioned art installations, Grammy award winning artists and even a world famous high wire walker! People can also get creative with opportunities to make your own works of art and share opinions on culture that will form part of an exciting outdoor exhibition. The festival will showcase the culture that makes Temple Bar so special to both Irish people and visitors to the area.

Some of the highlights of the festival, created by Temple Bar Cultural Trust, include Conversations about Culture, a unique outdoor photographic exhibition which will change every day featuring images of people as they pass through Temple Bar during the festival and their opinions on culture. Movies on the Street, two movies also celebrating anniversaries this year will be screened on Cow’s Lane, Breakfast at Tiffany’s which is 50 and Alice in Wonderland which is 60. Didier Pasquette, the world famous high wire walker, will brave the heights of Temple Bar in a stunning display. End of the Road, a new site specific theatre performance in Fishamble St by the Fishamble Theatre Company will dramatize the real life of a Dublin man who currently lives in St Francis Hospice.

De La Soul and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble will bring the funk with a musical performance at the Button Factory. Master of the Universe will pay tribute to Aidan Walsh, one of the first visionaries of what Temple Bar was to become, with an inflatable monument looking down on the area from the roof of Temple Bar Gallery & Studios. At Fort Building Workshops in Exchange Dublin, kids can create their own fort representing the medieval history of the area and dramatising contemporary issues in relation to architecture and planning.

Cultural organisations who are at the heart of culture in Temple Bar including the IFI, The Ark, Fishamble: The New Play Company and Temple Bar Gallery + Studios will all be devising, creating and hosting new and exciting events to celebrate all that is Made in Temple Bar!Young, old and in between will be spoilt for choice with events from Culture Club for Kids, Get Active and SceneNotHerd, the audience development programmes run by TBCT.

Irish Patchwork Society 30th Anniversary National Exhibition

The IPS was founded in 1981, following a meeting in the National Gallery in Dublin of 100 likeminded people interested in patchwork.  The idea came from the combined enthusiasm of three people, drawn together by their interest in textiles and patchwork. This year the Society is 30 years old and to celebrate this achievement has organised a National Exhibition. The title of the exhibition is Branching Out and quilts of all sizes have been gathered from all eight branches of the society which are spread throughout the country. The Society will be giving workshop/demonstrations, for adults on Tuesdays 11am-1pm and for children on Thursdays 11am-1pm.

Irish Design Shop – Jewllery Workshop Programme

Open to students of all levels from beginners to advanced, our aim is to teach a variety of skills involved in producing metal jewellery. Clare Grennan and Laura Caffrey mainly work in copper and silver, but encourage the use of a variety of materials such as wood, plastics and found objects.
Each weekend workshop is structured around the students designs and what they wish to get out of the two days. Beginners are introduced to metalwork on the Saturday morning with a brooch project (using basic skills such as the jewellers saw and soldering), then they work around individual designs to produce at least one finished piece of jewellery by the end of the workshop. All materials and tools are provided (they do charge for the use of silver however, which generally amounts to €30 per student, depending on what you make). They advise each student to bring along a notebook and an apron, or else wear your least fancy clothes!

Each weekend workshop takes place Saturday and Sunday from 10am-4pm.
The cost per student is €95.

To book a place on any of the following dates, drop us an email or give us a call.
