Outline:  This seminar will focus on 3D printing and its opportunities for the maker sector in Ireland.

3D Print process from inception to completion
Material finishes that can be achieved with 3D printing
Most accessible software solutions for 3D printing
Utilising 3D pint bureaus
Product suggestions

Cost implications with 3D printing
Recommended models
The threats and opportunities for the craft maker sector in Ireland

Seminar will be led by Paul Harrison;

For the past 26 years Paul has worked as a professional model-maker. For 21 of those years he has run his own model-making studio (City Models), based in Dublin.

“The production of commercial models and prototypes is a unique combination of craft and technology.  Commercial model making, with its hand skills and crafts has evolved into a production process that incorporates 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining and water jet cutting to produce components that are then hand assembled to produce a finished product.  This process gives me a unique insight in to the integration of new technologies into the craft industry.

Over the years I have worked with sculptors, industrial designers, architects and retail designers to commutate their concepts in 3 dimensions. With my expertise in manufacturing models I have always utilised the ever changing and evolving ideas and technologies across industries. After 21 years running City Models Ltd I can fully understand the pressures and stresses of setting up and running a design centred business in Ireland. The delicate balance of craft and commercial realities is something I fully understand and have achieved over the years.”

We would like your views on conclusion of the seminar with a view to hosting further 3D workshops based on participants’ needs.

Fee: €15 for half day, includes tea/coffee.

Limited to 30 places- early booking recommended.
