Further Information
www.londondesignfestival.com/events/place-gather

A Place to Gather will transform an old garage in Shoreditch, into a creative and exciting glimpse of contemporary Ireland.

Though the work may be Irish and rooted in its place of origin, walking through the space, visitors will be able to experience the work’s relevance to their everyday lives. There will be an engaging, visual poetry to the experience.

Double doors will lead curious visitors into a hidden room filled with the best of Irish craft and design, curated by Jonathan Legge. This welcoming space will feature tall shelving filled with Irish literature and craft, and a specially commissioned short film about the makers. The designer furniture will be arranged for use, with everything from floor coverings, to table and chairs, sofas and lighting, all created by Irish designers and craftspeople.

Some of the design features of A Place to Gather include:

- Pink Stained Oak Chairs by Horizon Furniture
- Sofa by O’Driscoll Furniture, upholstered in Irish Tweed by Molloy & Sons
- Tall book shelves by Designgoat
- Woven willow lighting by Kathleen McCormick
- Funky Knitted Stools by Claire-Ann O’Brien
- Greenwood Ladder by James Carroll Furniture
- Wall Hangings by Muriel Beckett
- A Rocking Chair by Sean Fogarty

The space will also feature work from: Anthony Cleary (lighting), Carmel Lyons (crochet Lace accessories) Clancy Moore Architects (lighting); Derek Wilson Ceramics (decorative ceramics); Etain Hickey (decorative ceramics); Hennessy & Byrne (marble table); Hugh Cummins (lighting); Jennifer Chan (candle holders); Jerpoint Glass Studio (water jugs, tumblers, vase); Karen Ebbs (decorative ceramics), (Nest Design (white lacquered table); Róisín de Buitléar (decorative glass); Sarah Wiegersma (decorative ceramics); Studio Donegal (woven cushions); Superfolk (wooden bench).

“A Place to Gather is about a respect for the power of Irish material culture. It is an exploration of how design, craft, literature, film – all these different parts of our culture – can connect people, ideas and places. It is about taking a holistic approach to Ireland’s material culture.”  Jonathan Legge, Curator.
