Exhibition of Irish made jewellery at Terminal 2, Dublin Airport

If you are travelling through T2 in Dublin airport this Christmas check out the  unique Irish jewellery exhibition featuring 16 of Ireland’s top jewellery designer-makers. The exhibition is open to visitors at Terminal 2 (T2) at Dublin Airport from Monday 14 November, showcasing the best of Irish jewellery design to the hundreds of thousands of holiday travellers passing through the busy hub between now and the new year.

The exhibition, featuring 16 of Ireland’s top jewellery designer-makers, will reflect the diversity of contemporary Irish design. The makers will hold jewellery making demonstrations giving passengers flying in and out of Ireland the opportunity to appreciate the fine craftsmanship of each individually designed piece. A selection of work from the exhibition will travel to Munich in Germany in February for a major international trade fair, Inhorghenta.

The jewellery designers featured at the T2 exhibition include well established jewellers such as Eily O’Connell (photo to right), Breda Haugh, Alan Ardiff, , Geraldine Murphy and Filip Vanas. The beautiful pieces, all “Imagined, Designed and Made in Ireland”, are available to purchase at the House of Ireland shop in T2 and can be seen on http://www.giveirishcraft.com/products/jewellery-makers.

The Dame District Christmas Market
December 17th- December 23rd
12:00- 22:30 each day
Admission: Free

The Dame District Christmas Market is to be located on Dame Court just parallel to Georges Street and behind Dame Street.

For seven wonderful days leading up to Christmas, the inaugural Dame District Christmas Market will transform one of Dublin’s most unique areas into a magical Christmas village to host a Christmas party that even Santa’s elves would be proud of.  There will be something for everyone as the streets are adorned with Christmas choirs, Christmas theatre, Santa’s Grotto, puppet shows, special guest performers, workshops and Christmas fashion shows.

The Dame District Christmas market will host some of the best market traders in the country where you will find everything from handmade arts & crafts to toys, knitwear and jewelry in addition to a host of intriguing stocking stuffer’s and unique gift ideas.
Hungry shoppers will find themselves sampling the best in street fair foods – sour dough wood pizza’s, rotary chickens, meats and cheeses, chocolates, warm ciders, and hot seasonal drinks.

By night punters can gorge themselves on a mouth-watering array of live music from Funzo, The Ghandis, The Candidates, Proud foot, MOO!, Dem Fools, Champaign Animal, Gar Cox and Katherine Lynch, The Young Folk, EL Hombre Jokes, The Trinity Singers, Ailie Blunnie, Louisiana 6, Tiki Paul, Brian Brody, and many more TBA

Time was with most of us, when Christmas Day encircling all our limited world like a magic ring, left nothing out for us to miss or seek; bound together all our enjoyments, affections, and hopes; grouped everything and everyone round the Christmas fire, and make the little picture shining in our bright young eyes, complete.- Charles Dickens

Merry Christmas! from Irish Design Shop on Vimeo.

A few weeks back, Fergus O’Neill (he of ‘keep going sure it’s grand’ fame) came up with a festive idea that would DEFINITELY get us on the news. The vision was to have ourselves singing the twelve days of Christmas with a selection of our products. Thankfully the vision changed. On the evening of filming, over a few beers, we decided to take a different approach (neither of us can carry a tune). Then, by sheer coincidence, in walked super talented editor Alex Synge (he of ‘keep sketch’ fame) offering his help. So we said yes please! THEN… the next day David Wall (he of Conor & David fame) was roped in to help with text, and so the ‘Three Wise Designers’ were formed. Between them, they have created a very nice little Christmas message of Irish craftiness and goodwill to one and all! Don’t think it will make the news but we hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
